homelessness?
Q. i am being evicted out of my house through no fault of my family, its cos my hubby aint in the army no more, i have filled in homeless forms and they have said to go to our neighbourhood office on eviction day and we will be placed in temporary accomodation, what is this, considering i have 2 dogs a cat and a child? and our stuff is going into storage paid by the council, how long will it take til we get a perm address and have my stuff back? my hubby is working but he is only working part time due to medical problems... hence why he isnt in the army

A. You ought to be given emergency accomodation. Why did your husband not make enquiries with Army before he left. I know there would have been help to find you accommodation and if it is not too late why not go and see someone from the NAAFI who maybe able to come up with an answer. Good luck and all the best.

Q. When has homelessness become a big problem in Canada? What are some example for adventure? I really need to know, PLEASE help. Also, please don't say hiking and stuff involving mountains. I just need some ideas that I can take a picture of and not go all the way to the mountains.

A. Although we do have some people who are homeless, homelessness is not a big problem in Canada. Probably something like less than 2% of the country's population are homeless. You can take pictures of seashores and cities if you don't want to go to the mountains.

What could I put in a letter to a homelessness housing organization to be rid of my mental health worker?
Q. I have been visiting with a community mental health worker for over two years now, every week. I lived with my parents in the suburbs until she helped me to get into a homelessness initiative unit. I have been living here for half of a year in this apartment. Before I moved in, she acted kind, but now that I am here, she has become passive-aggressive I think and she keeps hooking me with nasty comments and they are hard to pin on her. She is derisive toward my family, toward my sexuality, etc. What could I write in a letter to the housing organization to get her off my back? How do I escape her?

A. In general, there are steps you should take in sorting out a conflict with a service worker: 1 - Discuss it directly with the worker ONLY if you feel comfortable doing so. Do not feel you have an obligation to resolve a conflict with worker who works directly with you. 2- Discuss the conflict with the worker's supervisor. Let them know you are only interested in filing a formal complaint if the supervisor cannot help resolve the problem informally. 3- If you cannot resolve the conflict with the worker or their supervisor, discuss it with the organization's supervisor or director. Let them know you have attempted to resolve the conflict with the worker and their supervisor, and you would prefer not file a formal complaint if it can be… [cont.]

Q. The news says the economy is crashing all over the world. This will cause many of us to lose our jobs and this will cause a huge increase in homelessness and despair. A good question to ask when writing a persuasive essay on Homelessness?
Q. I have been told to write a persuasive essay on homelessness and cannot think of a good narrow question to base my essay on. Was thinking of "Should homelessness be criminalized" or "Should homelessness be illegal" ? Help please

A. How about "Should the Government provide healthcare for the homeless?" Make sure that whatever question you decide on, you (personally) have a clear answer/opinion on it. If you are wishy-washy on your answer to your own question, you will have a hard time being persuasive.

Anyone have good ideas on how to stop homelessness in the U.S?
Q. Just to let people know, the leading cause of homelessness is because people don't have health insurance. If people had health insurance, it would help everyone. For more information about homeless people, go to www.nationalhomeless.org.

A. It's not the leading cause. Were you homeless? I was, for three months of my life that I will never forget. The number one reason these people were in that situation was lack of education. I was in and out in three months and landed back on my feet, but some people do not have the skills to do that. I managed to land a job and apartment in three months. Not easy let me tell you. To reduce the amount of people that have children in homeless shelters would take a six year program. I have already done the math and it will take about ten million to start up for about 40 families. These people will have to get education, no one on drugs would be allowed, no having more kids allowed etc. There would be strict guidelines to follow, but… [cont.]

what can the government do to alleviate homelessness problems?
Q. I m taking sociology 1301 and i ve been asked about a major problem and i chose homelessness. but i need some clue to write my essay about homelessness. how would we alleviate the problem if we were given economic and political clout.
Asked by melissa - Wed Nov 4 16:20:57 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You can't. There are people who are homeless by choice and you will never be able to convince them to change. They are happy to live below the government's radar and interference. As for the "problem of homelessness" involving those who want a home, reduce the government's and union's interference in how businesses are run. Reduce taxes and the wasteful government spending. Let companies make more jobs available to the "homeless". Eliminate the socialist programs that support so many of these people so they are forced to go to work.

A. Politics and the anti socialism that prevails in one of the major parties.Homelessness is a lack of opportunity, self discipline brought on by a lack of opportunities from not being Properly Educated. You can't help everyone,we need to try harder. Each homeless person is an individual not part of a project. Each with a story or reason to get to this sorry state. Let your project cover some of the aspects of a real live Homeless Person and not just a word in a study.

Will Obama fight homelessness by making homes mandatory, and fining people who don't have homes?
Q. This approach worked so well in MA to reduce the number of people who don't have health insurance. They made health insurance mandatory, and if people didn't buy it, the state made them pay a fine equal to the cost of insurance. Why not take the same approach to joblessness or homelessness? Why not reduce homelessness by making homes mandatory, and if people don't get a home, make them pay a fine equal to the cost of a home? Wouldn't that make just as much sense? Why wouldn't that be just as effective for fighting homelessness?

A. I hear Canada will find it's citizen a home if they do not have one. But of course you don't have a choice where you live (and why should you) so a lot of good people are mixed in with low scum criminals and there is no segregation, in fact they make sure there isn't.

How do you help with homelessness?
Q. I live in a large city where the homeless population is as large as the small town I moved here from. It breaks my heart to see them on the street. I've made care packages with food, snacks and cigarettes (yeah I know, but I understand that addiction) but I know that's not enough. Where do you start to help these people who don't know how to help themselves? I'm looking forward to all feedback and opinions.

A. What a thought provoking question, and how kind are you to want to help?! You're on the right track. You recognize that the homeless ARE people who need help, and that while care packages help, they're a band-aid. You can organize drives to collect things like socks, toiletries (travel size) and blankets for them. Again, a band-aid, but will provide relief. You can volunteer at your local mission or daytime shelter - spend time talking to some of the people. Learn their stories. Treat them like people.
