homelessness?
Q. i am being evicted out of my house through no fault of my family, its cos my hubby aint in the army no more, i have filled in homeless forms and they have said to go to our neighbourhood office on eviction day and we will be placed in temporary accomodation, what is this, considering i have 2 dogs a cat and a child? and our stuff is going into storage paid by the council, how long will it take til we get a perm address and have my stuff back? my hubby is working but he is only working part time due to medical problems... hence why he isnt in the army

A. You ought to be given emergency accomodation. Why did your husband not make enquiries with Army before he left. I know there would have been help to find you accommodation and if it is not too late why not go and see someone from the NAAFI who maybe able to come up with an answer. Good luck and all the best.

A. Although we do have some people who are homeless, homelessness is not a big problem in Canada. Probably something like less than 2% of the country's population are homeless. You can take pictures of seashores and cities if you don't want to go to the mountains.

A. I can only give you the figures for my city. I am the community outreach coordinator and the counselor for my Kindred (like a church group for Nordic/Germanic Heathens) and we do a lot of work with the homeless and very poor. Our last yearly count had 3,196 men, women and children in Sacramento. That is up from 2,678 the previous year. That is all homeless including those in hospital, those in jail or treatment programs, those in shelters and those on the streets. The number on the street/by the river on the last count was 2,457 men, women and children. The rest of that 3,196 are in shelters (less than 500 beds county wide), jail, hospitals or treatment programs.

I feel bad for them but at the same time it is not the governments job to deal with it i would have to be a large private organization. Otherwise there is nothing that any normal people can do except let a homeless person into your house and i would never let that happen just because it is a little strange having a random person in my house. Then you also have to ask the question to some of them deserve a home? what about the people who just don't want to work? what about the druggies? the Alcoholics? Its their fault that they got into it in the first place why should someone pay for them to get into a home? thats like buying fresh needles… [cont.]

A. It is time to give the homeless a voice. If we can fight in a war, we can fight against homelessness. If we can build stadiums across the nation, we can do something to prevent homelessness. We came up with solutions as well. I did a booklet for my cultural diversity psychology class. If you like, send me your e-mail and I can send you the file. Feel free to use any of it. The only thing is that it won't print out as a booklet. You can figure it out or cut and paste.

It is the responsibility of the government rather than the individual citizen to find a solution to the growing problem of homelessness in the United States do you agree with the argument above ? personally, i think both the government and every individual should do something to solve the problem of homelessness. ps: i watched a film named 'the pursuit of happyness yesterday' , i was deeply moved by that movie. A. The homeless should be responsible for homelessness in America. A friend of mine worked as a missionary in an inner-city church in L.A. for a year. He says the hardest lesson he ever had to learn in his life was that the lion's share of our nation's homeless choose to be homeless, and no matter what leg-up you try to give them, no matter what skills you try to teach them, they will eventually go back to choosing to be homeless. The ones who don't want to be homeless eventually figure out a way out of it. That may sound harsh, but it's just plain reality, son. Best way to eliminate homelessness in US?
Q. What is the best way to eliminate homelessness? Many kids are born into homelessnes so improving education might help them. Job placement/training can help adults. Finding affordable living is another option. What do you think will work best at eliminating it? Advice is appreciated.

A. A major issue with the homeless is mental illness. While it's true that some of them bring trouble upon themselves, and it's also true that some are just hustlers posing as homeless in order to scam well-meaning people, there are actually very few who choose to be homeless just because of laziness. The ones who are homeless are often incapable of holding a regular job and don't have family available to help care for them. It's not their fault that they're sick. They need help and professional treatment, not scorn. There are several options for improving the situation. The first is to locate local charities and homeless programs and do what you can to help. Donating food or clothing, time or money are all tremendously helpful. But… [cont.]

Use your spell-checker to edit the words that you have miss-spelled. You have a good essay and I would not do anything other than what I have told you.

Basically, everyone came to the rally and first did a march (they walked from one major monument to a park with signs) and then everyone slept in boxes or sleeping bags right on the ground. No mattress pads, no tents, etc. It poured rain in a few of the cities during the event and everyone still stayed all night long because this is what really happens! Some people just can't go inside when it starts to rain like we can. You should try to get some speakers for your event. There are probably soup kitchens, anti-homelessness coalitions, shelters, etc, that would love to send a speaker out for you.… [cont.]

Q. I live in a large city where the homeless population is as large as the small town I moved here from. It breaks my heart to see them on the street. A. What a thought provoking question, and how kind are you to want to help?! You're on the right track. You recognize that the homeless ARE people who need help, and that while care packages help, they're a band-aid. You can organize drives to collect things like socks, toiletries (travel size) and blankets for them. Again, a band-aid, but will provide relief. You can volunteer at your local mission or daytime shelter - spend time talking to some of the people. Learn their stories. Treat them like people. It's amazing what an impact genuine kindness can have on another human life. To really get engaged in SOLVING the problem - you need to isolate the symptoms. Why are a lot of these people homeless? Is it because they choose to be? I… [cont.]

How did homelessness arise in our society?
Q. I need to write one paragraph about this question. Please note that I am from Australia, so it needs to remain at a national level. I just need some points in the right direction!

A. I would have to say that homelessness is universal everywhere. Its caused by lots of things such as Addictions, Poverty,Mental illness, Abuse, Poor choices. etc... look for this book or article I don't remenber ( Encyclopedia of Homelessness By David Levinson) It covers a lot of stuff on homelessness.

A. To a large extent it will be influenced by where you are located. In countries like Australia, England and some Scandernavian countries, a good welfare system means that "lack of funds" is usually only a small part of the problem. On a general basis some causes are: 1) Lack of funds. 2) Rebellion against authority (not wanting to do what they are told to by parents and others). 3) Substance abuse (drugs, alcohol etc). 4) A 'drop out mentality", not wanting to be part of the system (but still wanting the benefits it provides including welfare). 5) Short term can be caused by family break up. Wife and kids walk out on an abusive husband/father etc.\ 6) High accommodation costs. These are the causes, at least. Effects can be health, crime, [cont.]
